Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside in Thailand for takeover talks

Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside is in Thailand having discussions about a possible takeover of the Championship side, manager Neil Lennon reveals.

Championship side Bolton Wanderers could be set for a Thai takeover, with chairman Phil Gartside in the Far East to discuss a possible deal.

Thai entertainment company BEC-Tero and Siam Sport Syndicate have previously been linked with a joint bid.

Bolton's debt currently stands at £163.8m, but that doesn't appear to have deterred the potential suitors.

Trotters boss Neil Lennon today revealed at a pre-match press conference that Gartside is currently in Thailand for discussions.

"I don't know about selling [the club] but I know he's away in Thailand to discuss a proposition from some Thai businessmen," Lennon said.

"What that is, I've no idea. What the ins and outs of it are, I don't know. I'll know more when Phil comes back."

Lennon also admitted that it was a little strange to be facing a possible change of ownership less than a month into his time in charge.

He added: "I'll sit down with Phil and discuss what the situation is. Is it a concern? Not really.

"But it is strange that this has happened so soon in my tenure. But if it's the best thing for the club going forward, then so be it."

Lennon has won two and lost two in his first four games in charge, with Bolton second-bottom in the table on 11 points from 15 games.
