Bolton Wanderers continued their build-up to the new season with a 2-1 win away at Port Vale this evening.
The hosts went close to taking an early lead as Sam Kelly's shot crashed off the inside of the post, before Bolton also threatened as Gary Madine tested the keeper with a low drive.
The striker was not to be denied for a second time though, as he latched on to the end of a Liam Feeney pass before bending it into the far corner.
The Championship club doubled their lead shortly after the break as a cross from Neil Danns was headed home by Madine from a few yards out.
Vale hit back as Louis Dodds went close, before Sam Foley converted Byron Moore's low cross to set up an interesting finale.
Local boy Carl Dickinson almost levelled the scores, but his shot cannoned off the bar, before the home side were awarded a late penalty.
However, Moore wasted the chance as he hit the bar, which allowed Bolton to win.
