Half-Time Report: Bournemouth battle back against Birmingham City

Promotion candidates Bournemouth head into the break against Birmingham City drawing 2-2 thanks to a late Callum Wilson goal.

Callum Wilson's 20th goal of the season has seen Bournemouth battle back from two goals down to go into the break against Birmingham City level.

It was the hosting Cherries that started brightly at Dean Court, but they couldn't make that domination count.

Their best chance was created by Ryan Fraser in the 14th minute, but Wilson was unable to guide his effort on target.

That miss was then duly punished four minutes later as home goalkeeper Artur Boruc raced off his line, but it was not enough to put off Clayton Donaldson, who lobbed the visitors into a 1-0 lead.

Then, just four minutes later, Gary Rowett's men doubled their advantage. David Cotterill made his way unopposed into the Bournemouth area and, having got the better of Steve Cook, he then fired a low shot across Boruc and into the far corner of the net.

Rather their rest on their laurels, Birmingham continued to attack as the half wore on and they went close to a third goal when Donaldson went through again, only to be denied by Cook.

Moments later and somewhat against the run of play, having had a big say at one end, Cook then brought Bournemouth back into contention in the 39th minute. The away side failed to clear a corner and the centre-back was on hand to bundle the ball beyond Darren Randolph from close range.

Then, just when it seemed that there would be a one-goal deficit for the hosts to contend with heading into the interval, Wilson raced clear to roll the ball into an unguarded net.

If Eddie Howe's men can complete the comeback after the restart and come out of this contest with all three points, they will move to the top of the Championship table.
