Eddie Howe calls for Bournemouth to bounce back

The Cherries reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe wants to see a reaction from his players in the Carabao Cup following their weekend drubbing.

The Cherries have enjoyed an impressive start to the season but suffered a 4-0 Premier League thrashing at Burnley on Saturday.

They return to the field against another Lancashire club on Tuesday, with Championship side Blackburn visiting the Vitality Stadium for a third-round cup tie.

“We’re looking forward to getting back into action and looking forward to having the chance to respond,” Howe said at his pre-match press conference.

“We won’t underestimate Blackburn in any way, we know we’ll have to play well to get through.”

Howe made 10 changes to his starting XI in the last round of the competition as the Cherries comfortably overcame League Two MK Dons.

After making only minor selection alterations for top-flight fixtures, he is again considering rotating his squad to give opportunities to some of his peripheral players.

England internationals Lewis Cook and Jermain Defoe are among those to have been restricted to limited game time this term, along with captain Simon Francis and winger Jordon Ibe.

“We have players who are desperate to play and get an opportunity,” added Howe.

“We need to make the right call and we want to progress. It’s a home game and we want to entertain the home supporters, we’ll make the best decision possible.

“No matter the run of results, you want players who put their hands up and want to play, it’s an opportunity for those players to play and show what they can do.”

The Cherries will be without injured trio Charlie Daniels, Dan Gosling and Kyle Taylor against Rovers.

Forward Junior Stanislas returned from a knee problem as a second-half substitute at the weekend and could be involved.
