Howe keen to get Bournemouth back to top form

The manager has had time to mull over bad results during the international break.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has had two weeks to stew on his side's loss to Newcastle.

The Cherries – one of the Premier League's form sides this campaign – were beaten 2-1 at St James' Park before the season went to the final international break of the year.

It followed on from a last-minute loss at home to Manchester United and put a slight dent in their fine form so far.

They still sit sixth in the table, though, and face Arsenal on Sunday on the back of a fortnight of Howe making clear what is important.

"For me, we have set such high standards this season," he said.

"The Newcastle game in particular we didn't perform as we can and that was hugely frustrating.

"I had a long time to reflect on that game, to take that in and make sure we came back and did our work."

Bournemouth's rise through the leagues and stabilisation in the top flight under Howe has however meant he has fewer players to work with on international breaks.

Eight of his men were away with their countries during this recess, Callum Wilson one of them as the striker made a goals-coring debut for England.

"It's a sign that the squad is continuing to grow and individuals are getting the benefit of the team's strength," Howe added.

"Everyone has individual aims and aspirations but playing for your country is something you dream about, I know I certainly did.

"It's one of the ultimate goals of football and to do that you need to be consistent and I think our guys have been. The challenge remains as strong as ever, to reproduce that consistency.

"There is a long way to go, and when you look at the fixtures to come, we need to be very good in the next few games."
