Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe paid tribute to David Brooks after the midfielder made his debut for the club in Saturday's 2-0 win over Cardiff City in the Premier League.
Brooks joined Bournemouth in a £10m deal from Sheffield United during the summer transfer window, and was named in the starting XI against Cardiff at the Vitality Stadium.
Howe has revealed that Brooks's performance in the club's final pre-season match against Marseille saw the winger start against the Bluebirds, and the Cherries boss was delighted with the 21-year-old's display.
"I decided to go with the same team as Marseille due to the fact that performance was so good. I thought it was very difficult to take anyone out of it," Howe told reporters.
"David deserved to start on the back of that performance and I was really pleased with his contribution. He's young, yes, but he's talented and I think you saw a glimpse of what his potential is. I'm really pleased with him."
Bournemouth will look to make it back-to-back wins at the start of the new Premier League campaign when they travel to West Ham United next weekend.
