Eddie Howe "very pleased" with Callum Wilson display

Eddie Howe says that Callum Wilson has done his chances of a first Premier League appearance in nine months "no harm" with his display against Middlesbrough.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has admitted that he will "have a few sleepless nights" as he weighs up whether to start Callum Wilson against Chelsea next weekend.

The 25-year-old scored one and set up another on his first outing since January as the Cherries edged past Middlesbrough 3-1 in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Following Wilson's lively display against Boro at the Vitality Stadium, Howe is now tempted to throw the English striker straight into the mix for Saturday evening's home league match against champions Chelsea.

"The biggest compliment I can give Callum is that he's played 90 minutes and it didn't really look hard for him, physically," he told reporters. "I think his overall performance gives me something to think about.

"We've got competition in that area, for sure. I'll have a few sleepless nights, if everyone's fit, trying to pick a team and pick a bench but that's what you want. I was very pleased with him, he's done his chances no harm."

Wilson last appeared in the Premier League nine months ago in Bournemouth's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.
