Bournemouth have reached the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup by claiming a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough in Tuesday's fourth-round tie at the Vitality Stadium.
The hosts took the lead in the 49th minute when Ryan Fraser's corner fell to debutant Jack Simpson, who fired a left-footed volley beyond Dimitrios Konstantopoulos from close range.
Boro were level shortly before the hour, however, as Marcus Tavernier broke free down the left, bore down on goal and rifled a finish into the far corner of Artur Boruc's net.
In the 75th minute, Simpson was brought down in the box for a Cherries penalty, which the returning Callum Wilson duly tucked home from 12 yards out to restore his side's lead.
Eddie Howe's charges then made sure of progress to the quarter-finals of the competition seven minutes from time when Wilson cut the ball back for Benik Afobe to slot home from close range.
