Eddie Howe: 'Bournemouth still not safe from Premier League drop'

Eddie Howe does not believe that Bournemouth are safe in the Premier League despite a double-digit margin over the bottom three.

Eddie Howe has reiterated that Bournemouth are still not safe in the Premier League despite a double-digit margin over the bottom three.

The Cherries have lost their last two league games and are winless in five, Manchester United running out 2-0 winners in Wednesday night's game at the Vitality Stadium.

Despite their loss, Bournemouth are 10 points clear of the relegation zone, although the teams in the bottom three have at least a game in hand on them.

"We gave everything, we were decent for large spells," Howe told BBC Sport. "The energy the players gave was very high. The frustrating thing is that we got in good positions but didn't execute the final part.

"They didn't have a huge amount of chances either but took their goals well. You have to admire the quality of the opposition at times.

"We expected them to turn up and want to win, that's what they have always done. They responded to a setback and their front three caused us problems. In the main we defended well, it was a tough examination.

"We're not quite safe - I'm getting bored of saying it - we have three massive games left and we need to get over the line."

Bournemouth wrap up their Premier League campaign with trips to Southampton and Burnley, either side of a home game against Swansea City.
