Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen has been added to the matchday squad ahead of a potential club debut against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
The 30-year-old has not played a competitive fixture since suffering a cardiac arrest whilst playing for Denmark against Finland at the 2020 European Championships back in June 2021.
Due to having an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device fitted, Eriksen was forced to leave previous club Inter Milan by mutual consent, owing to Italy's rules against such devices.
However, after joining Brentford as a free agent in January, the Dane is set for a remarkable return to football on Saturday, just eight months after his tragic experience.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the visit of Newcastle, Bees boss Thomas Frank said: "Christian will be in the squad. He will get on the pitch for his debut tomorrow. It will be amazing.
"It is a big day for all of us, but especially Christian and his family. When he walks out on to that pitch."
After joining on deadline day in the winter transfer window, Eriksen has featured in two behind-closed-doors friendlies as he works his way back up to full fitness. body check tags ::
