David Button: 'Brentford missing playoffs would be a failure'

Brentford goalkeeper David Button believes that will be a "failure" if the Bees don't reach the playoffs, despite it being their first season back in the second tier.

Brentford goalkeeper David Button has insisted that if the Bees miss out on the Championship's top six it will be a "failure", despite it being their first season back in the second tier.

The West London side have been one of the division's surprise packages and although they have amassed 75 points from 45 games so far, they need results to go their way on the final day of the season to sneak into the playoff places.

Brentford need to beat Wigan, who might be confirmed as relegated by next weekend, and hope that either Derby County or Ipswich Town lose against Reading and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

Speaking after yesterday's 2-0 win at Reading, Button told Get West London: "It was a great victory for us today and it keeps the pressure on them going into next weekend.

"It's been a good season for us but if we do miss out then we'll look back on it with a few regrets as well.

"We've known since the start of the season what we've got in that dressing room and how good we are and if we don't make the playoffs at this point we'll see it as a bit of a failure."

If Ipswich (+19) lose and Derby get something against Wigan, Brentford (+16) will only get into the top six if they finish with the same or a better goal difference than Ipswich.
