Stoke City's pre-season preparations suffered a blow as they lost 2-0 to Brentford this afternoon.
The home side went close early on through Andre Gray, who forced Jack Butland into an early save to prevent his well-struck shot from finding the net.
Steve Sidwell had Stoke's first chance, but he fired straight at the keeper before Marco van Ginkel shot over the bar from the edge of the box.
However, the Championship club took the lead just after the half-hour mark as Akaki Gogia's long-range shot deflected off Ryan Shawcross and looped into the top corner.
After the break, the Potters pushed forward for an equaliser as Jonathan Walters went close with a lobbed effort after he latched on to a through-ball from Bojan Krkic.
However, Brentford killed the game mid-way through the half when Stuart Dallas rifled the ball home at the back post following a corner.
