Brighton advance in the Carling Cup after defeating Premier League club Sunderland 1-0 in extra time this evening.
The match remained goalless at full-time, before a close-range headed goal from Brighton’s Craig Mackail-Smith put the team 1-0 up in the first half of extra time.
The Championship club held Steve Bruce’s Black Cats for the remainder of extra time, ensuring their advance to the third round of the tournament.
Sunderland, meanwhile, are still seeking their first win of the season.
