Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton believes that his side were unfortunate to concede a late penalty against Derby County.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton has claimed that the late penalty decision given against his side in their draw against Derby County was "harsh".

The Seagulls led 2-1 going into the final minutes at the iPro Stadium thanks to goals from James Wilson and Rajiv van La Parra, but Paul Clement's men were awarded a spot kick in stoppage time when Gordon Greer was adjudged to have fouled Johnny Russell.

Chris Martin converted the penalty to earn the Rams a share of the spoils, leaving Hughton to rue the decision from referee Lee Mason.

He told BBC Sport: "I thought it was very harsh. Unless somebody shows me a different angle, from the one I've seen there's no doubt Gordon dives in because he has to but I don't see contact.

"The win would have meant a lot to us and we are disappointed but I think you have to give our players credit to come here against a team on such a good run with the quality they've got and I don't think anyone would have begrudged us the win."

Brighton are two points clear at the top of the table after 20 matches this season.
