Graham Potter: 'We must improve in final third of field'

Just three of 20 attempts on goal against Crystal Palace were on target.

Brighton boss Graham Potter has stressed the need for an improvement on the attacking front after the way last weekend's match at Crystal Palace went.

The Seagulls had 65.7 per cent of possession at Selhurst Park and 20 shots at goal to Palace's one, which was a penalty.

But just three of the 20 attempts were on target, and Potter's men only salvaged a 1-1 draw thanks to a 90th-minute equaliser from substitute Alexis Mac Allister.

Ahead of Monday's home clash with West Brom, Potter said: "I think we pretty much reduced Crystal Palace to one shot on goal which was the penalty, which on the one hand, from a defensive perspective, is really good.

"We probably did enough to score, and on another day if you get lucky, you will get two or three, but one wasn't enough to get the three points and we have to try to find ways to create more chances. That is football and that is the challenge.

"In the Premier League you have got top players playing against you and then one action, one thing can turn the game around.

"We started the game well, they got the penalty from their first entry into the box, and I think from there we were quite dominant, as the stats would say – but that's the beauty of football.

"Crystal Palace do it well, they defend deep, but we still managed to keep going and create stuff. I was happy with our personality, happy with our spirit on the pitch.

"The work is to try to turn the margins around, and that's what we are trying to do."

Forward Danny Welbeck could make his Brighton debut in Monday's game following his arrival on a one-year deal. Skipper Lewis Dunk begins a three-game suspension after his stoppage-time red card against Palace.

Potter's team head into the contest with four points from their five Premier League games so far. West Brom, last season's Championship runners-up, have two from five outings.

Potter, a former Baggies player, said: "I think they have strengthened from their promotion.

"They've picked up a couple of draws against Chelsea and Burnley, they are here on merit and they'll be fighting to stay in the league.

"They have got an experienced manager (Slaven Bilic) and are a really good club. They'll be desperate to do well and stay in the league.

"We will try our best to get a positive result, which is three points."
