Inigo Calderon and Joao Teixeira score two goals each as Brighton & Hove Albion beat Birmingham City 4-3.

Brighton & Hove Albion have snuck past the challenge of Birmingham City, with Joao Teixeira and Inigo Calderon scoring two goals each.

The Seagulls took the lead early on, Teixeira dribbling down the left before cutting inside and beating Darren Randolph at his near post. Clayton Donaldson equalised for Birmingham just five minutes later though, a shot from Stephen Gleeson reflecting off him and past David Stockdale into the net.

Jonathan Grounds had a stinging shot parried by Stockdale, but Andrew Shinnie could only hit the ball over the bar with an open goal in front of him. Paul Caddis had a chance to score from the spot after Shinnie was fouled, but Stockdale got down low to save and turn the ball away.

Brighton hit back straight after the break, Sam Baldock floating in a cross from out wide and Calderon getting on the end of it to turn the ball into the net. Teixeira then got his second of the afternoon, turning in a loose ball after Baldock's initial shot had been saved.

Wes Thomas got Birmingham's second to make sure that the end of the game was a tense affair, receiving the ball in the area before turning on the spot and scoring.

Calderon's second goal nearly the game beyond doubt though, turning in the ball after Lewis Dunk's header was blocked. Lee Novak then got Birmingham's third deep into injury time, but it wasn't enough as Brighton left with all three points.

The result sees Brighton move up into 20th place in the league but still within distance of the relegation zone, while Birmingham drop down to 15th.
