Brighton & Hove Albion have broken a club record by extending their unbeaten run in the Championship to 17 games by defeating MK Dons 2-1 in their clash at the Amex Stadium this afternoon.

Chris Hughton's men took the lead in the fifth minute through Solly March as he controlled the ball on the edge of the box after Lewis Dunk's header was blocked into his path, and he found the top corner with a left-footed volley.

Murphy doubled his side's lead when he finished off a well-worked move by the hosts, which saw the ball played between three players before the winger applied the finish by slotting the ball past David Martin.

However, Karl Robinson's side hit back in the 23rd minute when Nicky Maynard made a nice touch to carve out space for a strike and he curled an effort past David Stockdale and into the net.

Tomer Hemed had a glorious chance to extend his side's advantage before the break, but his effort clattered off the post and bounced clear.

Both teams struggled to find their form in the early stages of the second half as quality was lacking in the final third of the pitch.

The visitors almost levelled the scores when Samir Carruthers raided into the box and fired a low effort at goal, but his strike was saved by Stockdale at his near post.

Murphy almost produced a fine strike to restore the home side's two-goal cushion, but his curling effort was well saved by Martin.

The Dons made a late surge to find a leveller, but the Seagulls held out to secure the three points to move back into the automatic promotion places, while Robinson's side drop down one place to 21st.
