Colin Sexstone joins the Bristol Rovers board as a non-executive director, three years after leaving his position at Bristol City.

Former Bristol City chairman Colin Sexstone has taken up a role as non-executive director at near-rivals Bristol Rovers.

The 67-year-old departed Ashton Gate in 2012 after spending close to 12 years at the club.

Sexstone has since taken up an identical position at Plymouth Argyle, where he spent three years before stepping down earlier this week.

Speaking to Rovers' official website, the former Gloucestershire County Cricket CEO said: "The fact I was involved with Bristol City for so many years will sit uneasily with some fans.

"My relationship with the Bristol Rovers board has always been excellent and my commitment now is exclusively with Rovers. First and foremost, I'm a proud Bristolian who loves sport.

"My experience means I know how successful sports clubs operate, and I hope to help Bristol Rovers achieve more success on and off the pitch. I have an extensive network of contacts throughout football and the financial world and I will use these for the benefit of Rovers."

Chairman Nick Higgs added: "We are delighted to have someone of Colin's stature join us and we are confident his contribution will strengthen our operation. Colin is a successful businessman and has unrivalled contacts in areas which are relevant and exciting for our club."

League Two side Bristol Rovers are currently camped in mid-table after losing each of their last three games.
