Burnley have edged closer to appointing a new manager by reportedly opening discussions with former Wolverhampton Wanderers coach Mick McCarthy.
The 53-year-old has been in the hunt for a new management role following his dismissal from Molineux in February.
While McCarthy was originally linked to the Bolton Wanderers job, which was left vacant by Scotsman Owen Coyle following his sacking, it is believed that the former Wolves manager has begun talks regarding a move to Turf Moor, according to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
Burnley began searching for a new coach following Eddie Howe's return to League One side Bournemouth last week.
