Burnley have reportedly agreed a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Shurandy Sambo during the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old has featured on nine occasions for PSV this season although he is yet to start a league match, earning just 94 minutes of Eredivisie action so far this term.
Sambo spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at fellow Dutch top-flight outfit Sparta Rotterdam, making 28 league starts and finding the net on two occasions.
Despite plenty of first-team opportunities in Rotterdam, the right-back has found chances in Peter Bosz's side extremely hard to come by, often being forced to play in PSV's youth side in the second division.
Barcelona loanee Sergino Dest and Jordan Teze have a tight grip on the full-back positions for the Eredivisie league leaders, who have lost just once in 29 league contests so far this season.
Burnley swoop in for Sambo
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Burnley have made a move to secure the services of Sambo ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
The report claims that the Clarets have agreed a deal with PSV to sign the defender during the summer transfer window, with Vincent Kompany looking to bolster his backline.
With Sambo's contract in Eindhoven expiring at the conclusion of the season, it is understood that the 22-year-old will switch to the English club on a free transfer.
The Netherlands Under-21 international is supposedly set to put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Turf Moor, committing him to the Lancashire club until the summer of 2028.
Sambo has no experience of playing professional football around of the Netherlands - let alone in England - meaning that the impending switch to Burnley represents a massive change in scenery for the youngster.
The state of play at right-back
With Sambo looking set to join up with Burnley for the 2024-25 season, there will be increased speculation surrounding the future of right-backs currently at the club.
Wales international Connor Roberts was integral to the Clarets' title-winning campaign of 2022-23 but failed to cement his place in Kompany's Premier League XI.
Brazilian Vitinho earned the title of first choice at right-back and Roberts was loaned out to Championship side Leeds United during the January window.
It was reported last month that Daniel Farke's side are plotting a permanent move for the 28-year-old, despite him being kept out of the Leeds side by Archie Gray since joining the Elland Road club. body check tags ::
