Burnley and Hull City are reportedly interested in signing Millwall youngster Romain Esse in the closing days of the January transfer window.
After making his breakthrough in first-team football at The Den last season under Gary Rowett, the 18-year-old has featured a further 15 times in the Championship for the Lions this term.
Esse graduated from Millwall's academy in December 2022 and has since gone on to play in 30 contests for the South Londoners across all competitions, scoring once.
The attacker also possesses relative international pedigree, having represented England at Under-18 and Under-19 level since February of last year.
According to Football Insider, the emergence of Esse over the past 13 months has caught the attention of clubs in the Premier League and the Championship.
The report claims that both Burnley and Hull are admirers of the winger, with the Clarets and the Tigers looking to bolster their ranks before Thursday's deadline.
It is understood that Vincent Kompany's side have submitted an official approach for Esse to Millwall, however it is currently unknown what decision the Lions will take.
The same can supposedly be said for Liam Rosenior's men, who have already been very active in the January transfer window as they fight for a top-six spot.
The Tigers have secured the services of Billy Sharp, Fabio Carvalho, Ivor Pandur and Ryan Giles since the start of the calendar year, with the Humberside club currently eighth, one point behind sixth-placed Coventry City.
It is believed that Esse would be open to sealing a switch away from The Den in the final days of the transfer window, with the 18-year-old receiving less game time than he expected this season.
The winger has not started a competitive fixture since the 3-1 defeat at David Wagner's Norwich City on August 20, with the player yet to feature in over 45 minutes of a match under new head coach Joe Edwards.
Burnley signed David Datro Fofana on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the campaign, with the Clarets hoping the Ivorian can provide some much-needed firepower in attack.
The 21-year-old is set to make his debut for Kompany's charges when they travel to face treble winners Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday night. body check tags ::
