Burnley have reportedly failed with an approach for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.
Since earning promotion to the Premier League, Clarets boss Vincent Kompany has been relentless with his efforts to strengthen his first-team squad.
Despite the vast financial outlay, there are no signs of Kompany settling with his current crop, and it was alleged earlier this month that an ambitious bid for Bakayoko was in the offing.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a €20m (£17.2m) was not enough to tempt PSV into selling the Belgian prospect.
As it stands, it is unclear whether Burnley will return with a fresh proposal, but Romano adds that other clubs are monitoring the situation.
The 20-year-old has already racked up 43 appearances for the Dutch giants, contributing seven goals and nine assists in all competitions.
Staying with PSV, and West Ham United are allegedly toying with the idea of making a bid for midfielder Ibrahim Sangare.
With the funds used from the sale of Declan Rice, manager David Moyes has signed Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse to bolster the Hammers' ranks.
That said, Flynn Downes has also been allowed to link up with Southampton on loan, putting Moyes in a position where he requires additional players for the engine room.
According to Football Insider, West Ham have made contact with PSV regarding potentially negotiating a deal for the Ivorian.
Although Sangare has a £32m release clause in his contract, it is suggested that the East Londoners may look to sign the 24-year-old for a lower fee.
The report suggests that an asking price may be dependent on whether PSV qualify for the Champions League group stages, the club currently locked at 2-2 on aggregate with Rangers after the away first leg.
Fulham are reportedly another club who hold an interest in a player plying his trade in the Netherlands in the form of AZ Alkmaar's Yukinari Sugawara.
Marco Silva is relatively well stocked in the full-back areas, but it has been claimed that Kenny Tete could depart Craven Cottage before the end of the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail suggests that Fulham are interested in securing a deal for Sugawara, who would allegedly cost at least £10m.
Sugawara has been with the Eredivisie outfit since the 2019-20 campaign, contributing an impressive 10 goals and 22 assists from 161 appearances in all competitions.
While AZ would prefer to retain the services of one of their key players, the Japan international has just two years left on his contract. body check tags ::
