Andy Delort scored the only goal of the game as Caen beat Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1.
Both teams had chances to score in the opening 15 minutes but Julien Feret and Kevin Monnet-Paquet saw their shots saved.
Delort was twice denied by Stephane Ruffier and Loic Perrin narrowly missed a header at the other end as the first half finished goalless.
The former Wigan Athletic striker gave Caen the lead on the hour mark when a cross found him inside the six-yard box for an easy finish.
Monnet-Paquet and Nolan Roux both had chances to equalise, but missed the target in the closing 10 minutes as the hosts held out for the win.
