A solitary goal from Michael Frey was enough to give Lille a 1-0 home victory over Caen in Ligue 1 this evening.
Lille were presented with a great chance to take the lead after three minutes when Nolan Roux guided his shot wide of the post, despite having time in the centre of the box.
Caen tried to hit back through Emmanuel Imorou, who delivered a teasing cross for Alaeddine Yahia, but he could only head his attempt over the crossbar.
Roux was to atone for his earlier miss as he helped to give Lille the lead in the 20th minute with a pass that found Frey to bundle home from close range.
Frey looked dangerous early in the second half and his long-distance effort had to be smartly kept out of the bottom corner by Caen keeper Remy Vercoutre.
Caen might have stolen a point from a rather lifeless performance had Herve Bazile saw his properly met by Damien Da Silva, who spooned over the bar from the centre of the box as Lille hung on.
