The forward is about to undergo a medical with the Welsh outfit ahead of a £10m switch, according to TeamTalk.
Reid scored 21 goals in all competitions for the Robins last term and is said to have attracted interest from a number of other clubs, including West Bromwich Albion.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock is believed to be tracking attacking reinforcements ahead of his side's return to the Premier League, having also been linked with Andre Gray and Salomon Rondon during the current transfer window.
Meanwhile, Cardiff are also said to be close to completing the signing of Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Alex Smithies.
