Catania have completed a season-long loan deal for Czech Republic international Jaroslav Plasil.
The 31-year-old has been with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux since 2009, but despite featuring in all four of their league games so far this season, he has agreed a loan switch to Serie A.
Plasil has been brought in by the Sicilian club primarily to replace Argentine playmaker Pablo Barrientos, who is in talks to join El Jaish after the Qatari club triggered his release clause last weekend.
A versatile midfielder who is primarily a forward-thinking wide playmaker, Plasil has played 83 times for the Czech national side, including appearances at three consecutive European Championships.
Catania coach Rolando Maran has made the move after a poor start to the new Serie A season, with back-to-back defeats against Fiorentina and Inter Milan.
