Scott Bain: 'Celtic don't speak about trebles'

The Hoops have won the last seven domestic trophies in Scotland.

Scott Bain insists Celtic's players are not talking about a domestic triple treble but praised his team-mates for normalising the possibility.

The Hoops have swept the board in the past two seasons and already have the Betfred Cup in the bag this term after their 1-0 win over Aberdeen in the final at Hampden Park last December.

And with an 11-point lead over Rangers at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership, Celtic only need two wins to guarantee an eighth successive title.

The William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final against the Dons at the national stadium on Sunday offers the chance to take another step towards an unprecedented nine trophies in succession.

However, Celtic goalkeeper Bain, who signed for the club initially on loan from Dundee in January 2018, said: "We don't speak about trebles so pressure-wise, it doesn't affect us.

"What people need to realise is what the team has done here over the last two years is special.

"It is not normal. The boys have made it seem normal that a team can go on and do that so to even be in a position to talk about it...

"I don't think you can give yourselves pressure. I think you have to embrace it and be thinking that this is a great achievement already and if you can go one better then that is amazing.

"The boys have shown in the last two and a half years that their focus is unmatched in the league, to go in every week with these big games it speaks volumes for them and their character."

The former Alloa player was ostensibly brought to Parkhead as cover for Craig Gordon but has taken over the number one spot since the turn of the year and is also arguably now the first choice for Scotland.

Bain was in goal for the 1-0 Betfred Cup final win over Aberdeen and he is keen to make it a cup double.

He said: "I would love it. More than I could have hoped for.

"It was obviously a dream start in the last cup campaign so we need to go in there with the same mentality and mind-set and make sure we get ourselves to another final.

"It is different from last year. I think any time I can play my part to help the team, it is always great and I will take more enjoyment this season because I feel like I have played a bigger part in it and so hopefully we can put ourselves into another final on Sunday.

"Since coming in from the winter break and playing all those games, it has been great, great results going our way and we are in a strong position in the league as well.

"It is happy days for myself."
