A late goal from Anthony Stokes gives Celtic a 2-1 win at home to Ross County in their Scottish Premiership opener.

Celtic have begun the defence of their Scottish Premiership title with a late 2-1 win against Ross County at Parkhead.

The champions found themselves behind with just three minutes on the clock as debutant Darren Maatsen fired in from the edge of the penalty area.

However, Celtic grabbed an equaliser midway through the half when Anthony Stokes was on hand to tap home from a corner.

Kris Commons rattled the crossbar for the hosts soon after the restart before Charlie Mulgrew saw his header come back off the woodwork.

Celtic were appealing for a penalty with just over 10 minutes to play when Brian McLean bundled over Stokes, but the referee waved away the appeals.

With time running out, Stokes rifled in a shot at the near post to give the home side the victory.
