Charlton Athletic have confirmed the appointment of Jose Riga as their new head coach following this morning's sacking of Chris Powell.
It was announced earlier today that Powell, 44, had been relieved of his duties with Charlton because of a disagreement with owner Roland Duchatelet.
New owner Duchatelet has moved quickly to replace Powell, installing 56-year-old Riga, who is the former boss of Standard Liege, another of Duchatelet's clubs.
Karel Fraeye also joins the club as the new assistant head coach.
Riga leaves his position as technical director of AC Milan's academy while Fraeye moves to South London from his job as head coach at Belgian club Eenddracht Zele.
Riga's first game in charge will be at home to Huddersfield Town tomorrow night.
He is tasked with keeping the Addicks in the Championship, taking over with the club rockbottom of the second tier but with multiple games in hand on those above them.
