Charlton Athletic and Rotherham United play out a 1-1 draw in their Championship clash at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic and Rotherham United played out a 1-1 draw in this afternoon's Championship clash at The Valley, with both goals coming in the final stages of the game.

The visitors were first to threaten when Ben Pringle was picked out in the box seven minutes in, but his subsequent shot cannoned off the post.

In the 11th minute, Rotherham pushed forward again and saw Matt Derbyshire poke a shot wide, but Charlton countered through Igor Vetokele, who collected a Chris Solly pass before blasting over the bar.

Just after the quarter-hour mark, Callum Harriott crossed to Johann Berg Gudmundsson, but the Icelandic striker struck the post with his drive.

Harriott then picked the ball up 30 yards from goal, but went on to skew his effort along the ground and wide of the near post.

After the restart, Gudmundsson's ball to Rhoys Wiggins was crossed over to Jordan Cousins, whose successive shots were both blocked.

Just before the hour, Milos Veljkovic sent a long-range dipping shot just wide of the post, before Vetokele's headed flick-on into the path of Gudmundsson led to a shot that was deflected over the bar.

Rotherham appealed for a penalty midway through the second half as Andre Bikey was accused of handling in the box, but nothing was given, and the Millers then saw a goal ruled out for offside in the 77th minute.

Charlton finally took the lead with just seven minutes left as Cousins bore into the Rotherham penalty box and slammed the ball home.

Just as it seemed as though the hosts would secure all three points, Danny Ward popped up at the back post to guide a cross into the Charlton goal and ensure that the Millers would claim a share of the spoils.

The result means that Charlton climb back to 18th in the Championship table, while Rotherham are three points from safety in 20th.
