Eden Hazard has claimed that he went off early in Tuesday's win over Paris Saint-Germain as he did not want to risk damaging his calf any further.
Chelsea's Belgian winger was replaced after just 17 minutes due to a calf problem he knew about before the match, but the hosts managed to secure a spot in the Champions League semi-finals without him by beating the French visitors 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
"I already felt some pain in my calf during the warm-up," Hazard, whose replacement Andre Schurrle opened the scoring, told Canal+.
"I didn't want to take a risk."
Hazard faces a battle to be fit for Sunday's game against Swansea City in the Premier League.
