Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho calls Nemanja Matic "a monster" after the midfielder put in a dominant display against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has praised midfielder Nemanja Matic after his dominant display against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old Serb grabbed the only goal of the game in a clinical away win for the Blues, and Mourinho believes that they could have left Portugal with more goals.

"Matic is a monster," he is quoted as saying by West London News. "I am not happy we did not score another goal but the biggest reason for that was not my players but the Sporting goalkeeper.

"The most difficult thing is to play like we play since the beginning of the season. Against Aston Villa and Bolton we did not kill the game.

"Today it was difficult to kill the game but the reality is that we played so well, so compact and so confident – with so much control. The four defenders plus Matic and Cesc Fabregas had compete dominance in the game."

Chelsea sit top of Group G with four points from two outings.
