John Aldridge: "Fernando Torres was in Jamie Carragher's pocket"

Liverpool legend John Aldridge feels that Jamie Carragher did an "outstanding" job of keeping Chelsea striker Fernando Torres quiet in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield.

A first-half header from Oscar was cancelled out by Daniel Sturridge's equaliser before Eden Hazard's penalty looked to be enough for the Blues until Luis Suarez struck in the 96th minute to give his side a point in the Premier League contest.

However, Torres, who moved to Chelsea from Liverpool for £50m in 2011, was largely subdued in the game, and Aldridge feels that a lot of the Spaniard's inactivity was down to Carragher's display in defence.

Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column: "Jamie Carragher was my man of the match against Chelsea. I thought the centre-back was absolutely outstanding throughout as he ensured Fernando Torres had a woeful afternoon.

"Carra had Torres in his pocket throughout. At one point Torres caught him in the face with an elbow but Carra took his time before getting him back. We left it late but we deserved a point for that second-half performance."

The stalemate leaves the Reds seventh in the Premier League.
