Petr Cech has admitted that he was not surprised by the negative reaction from Chelsea supporters to the appointment of Rafael Benitez.
The new Blues boss was greeted by a chorus of boos from the home crowd before today's goalless draw against Manchester City.
Cech thinks that the discontent is a hangover from Benitez's time at Liverpool and wants to change opinions with performances on the pitch.
He told Sky Sports News: "Unfortunately you cannot change history, and while Benitez was Liverpool coach we had a lot of rivalry and it comes from there.
"But he is here to change things and put us in winning mode and he needs to have a chance to do that."
Chelsea missed out on the chance to move as high as second with the draw against City, a result that Benitez declared left him unsatisfied at full time.
