Chelsea are reportedly expected to lose an appeal to overturn goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois's red card following Saturday's Premier League opener against Swansea City.
The Belgium international was given his marching orders by referee Michael Oliver after denying Bafetimbi Gomis a goalscoring opportunity.
After the game, which finished in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, manager Jose Mourinho refused to discuss the incident, but the club appealed the red card yesterday.
According to the Daily Star, the reigning English champions will not be successful in their attempt to overturn the decision, meaning that Courtois will serve a one-match ban.
Should the red card be upheld, the 23-year-old will miss Sunday's showdown against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
