Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has claimed that Thibaut Courtois is 'one of the club's best penalty takers', despite the Belgian international firing a wild spot kick into the stands during Sunday's Community Shield.
Sead Kolasinac cancelled out an effort from Victor Moses in normal time as the 2017 Community Shield at Wembley Stadium went to penalties.
Courtois, who surprisingly stepped forward, was one of two Chelsea players to miss from the spot as Arsenal won 4-1, but Conte has insisted that his goalkeeper is one of his best penalty takers.
"Courtois is one of the best players to kick a penalty," Conte told reporters. "If you have a player that shows you during the training session to be one of the best, you pick him to play, to shoot the penalty. Don't forget also that [Alvaro] Morata is a forward and he did the same."
Chelsea will begin the defence of their Premier League title at home to Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
