Diego Costa: 'Jose Mourinho didn't stop me from joining up with Spain'

Diego Costa insists that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho didn't try to stop him from joining up with the Spain squad due to his recent injury problems.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has insisted that manager Jose Mourinho did not try to interfere with his international duty after he was included in the recent Spain squad.

Mourinho recently suggested that the forward cannot play more than two games within a short space of time because of his niggling hamstring problems.

However, Costa has insisted that he is fit enough to represent Spain for their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

"Mourinho hasn't said anything to me," Costa told Marca. "You have to bear in mind that often I'm the one that makes the decision.

"I have to see how I'm feeling. I have the trust of the gaffer and the coaching staff here. When I have a problem, I say as much. I wouldn't come here and play if I were injured because that would make things worse.

"I've played three matches in the last week. The coach knows the score and that I've had some niggles, which I receive treatment for during the week. I'm hanging in there and am feeling better and better."

Costa has scored nine goals in seven Premier League matches following his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid in the summer.
