Roberto Di Matteo is returning to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea’s assistant manager.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas will unveil his backroom staff this morning, including former player Di Matteo.
The 41-year-old spent six years at the club as a player before a triple leg fracture forced him to retire in 2002.
He then turned his hand to management, first overseeing Milton Keynes Dons in 2008 and then West Bromwich Albion. He was fired from the Baggies in February despite bringing them back to the Premiership.
Di Matteo had been tipped to take the management post at Birmingham City, which was instead filled by Chris Hughton.
