Elliot: Chelsea are still Premier League contenders

Former Chelsea player Paul Elliott doesn't think that the Blues are at "panic stations" but there is an element of "concern" at the club.

Former Chelsea defender Paul Elliott refuses to believe that Chelsea are in crisis after two consecutive Premier League defeats.

The London side have failed to close the gap on Manchester United and Manchester City after losing six points from their previous two League matches against Arsenal and QPR.

Despite the recent results and racism allegations surrounding skipper John Terry, Elliott is confident that the current state of affairs are a minor blip in Chelsea's campaign.

"I don't start throwing the toys out of the pram because they've had a couple of defeats," Elliott told talkSPORT. "If you look back to this time last year they started off like a house on fire but then Ray Wilkins' dismissal was a catalyst and from there things became quite difficult.

"I've always said that the Premier League is a marathon not a sprint. Chelsea have too much firepower and too much offensive quality and I'm pleased with Villas-Boas because of the offensive manner in which the team have played.

"I think there is an element of concern but I don't think there are panic stations yet."

The former Premier League champions are third in the table below Manchester United.
