Gary Cahill: 'Premier League title race will remain tight'

Gary Cahill insists that it is still "too early" to start talking of Premier League title success, claiming that no side will run away with it this term.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has insisted that the Premier League title race will likely go right down to the wire this season and is hopeful that his side will be right in the mix.

The Blues picked up their fourth win in succession on Sunday afternoon as they saw off Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's Stadium, leaving them fourth in the table.

Just three points separate leaders Manchester City and fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur after 10 games, with some predicting as many as six teams to challenge for the title, and Cahill expects things to remain tight throughout.

"It's too early in terms of any team talking about winning the league but it's important to stay near the top," he told Sky Sports News. "We want to be up and among it. I can't see anyone running away with it this season.

"Southampton's record at home is very good - we knew that. But we knew if we carried on our form, we'd cause them problems. We worked hard.

"Four wins in the league now, four clean sheets - we keep going. We need those types of players [Eden Hazard and Diego Costa] who can turn the game in a moment. It's a pleasure to have these guys in the side."

Chelsea have picked up 22 points from their first 10 games this term - exactly double the number they had at this stage 12 months ago.
