Thierry Henry: 'Leicester City could achieve the impossible'

Thierry Henry admits that Leicester City are not "realistic title contenders", but believes there is always a chance they could finish top if others continue to falter.

Thierry Henry has claimed that Leicester City could pull off the seemingly impossible and win the Premier League if others around them continue to falter.

The Foxes have taken the top flight by storm this season to find themselves level on points with leaders Manchester City, with a game in hand over the two-time champions.

It is a different matter entirely for Chelsea, who have endured their worst ever start to a campaign and find themselves some seventeen points adrift in the lower reaches of the table.

While Henry believes there is an outside chance Leicester could indeed win the title, the former Arsenal striker admits that it is more likely they will finish outside of the Champions League berths.

"I still don't regard them as realistic title contenders and they are probably not going to finish in the top four," he told The Sun. "But the longer the so-called 'big five' fail to put their stamp on the Prem, the more Leicester will fancy their chances of pulling off one the biggest shocks of the century.

"It seems no one actually wants to win the league. The big boys have left the title door wide open. Teams like Leicester are usually allowed four or games at the start of the season at the top table - just enough time for a quick aperitif before being booted off. But Leicester are now halfway through their main course, eyeing up the desert menu - and Chelsea are not even in the same restaurant.

"It's hard to believe the champions travel to Leicester tomorrow night 17 points behind them and definite underdogs. Sooner or later, the Blues are going to wake up and start playing like champions again. But their players still need to take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror."

Chelsea visit Leicester on Monday evening looking to close the gap on the top half of the table.
