Glen Johnson has applauded the career of Ashley Cole and said that nobody is more deserving of reaching a century of England caps.
Chelsea defender Cole is poised to make his 100th Three Lions appearance in the friendly against Brazil on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old's imminent achievement has resulted in praise from fellow full-back Johnson, who has claimed that Cole has been slightly undervalued during his international career.
"The 100 caps is fantastic for Ashley and, for me, no-one deserves it more," said Johnson. "As a player he's been a proper pro for many years in the Premier League and done some great things in the game.
"Does he get the credit he deserves? Not at times, no. He's been in the set-up for such a long time, he's been a key player and consistent for many years.
"He has been a key member of any team he has been involved with season after season. He is very important for England. He started his 99 caps. If that doesn't tell a story I don't know what does."
Cole will become the seventh person to reach the three-figure landmark, with Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard the most recent to pass the milestone.
