Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hit back at claims that Rafael Benitez is always being forced to clean up the Portuguese coach's mess by stating that the Spaniard "destroyed" one of his former clubs.
Benitez's wife Montse was critical of Mourinho in an interview with La Region, stating that her husband has had to take on "messes" left behind by the now-Chelsea boss.
The former Liverpool manager has coached three of Mourinho's former clubs - Inter Milan, Chelsea and now Real Madrid, who appointed the 55-year-old at the end of last season.
In response to Mrs Benitez's claims, Mourinho told reporters: "The lady is a bit confused, with all respect. I'm not laughing because her husband went to Chelsea to replace Roberto Di Matteo and he went to Real Madrid and replaced Carlo Ancelotti.
"The only club where her husband replaces me was at Inter Milan, where in six months he destroyed the best team in Europe at the time.
"And for her also to think about me and to speak about me, I think the lady needs to occupy her time and if she takes care of her husband's diet she will have less time to speak about me."
Mourinho responded to the jibe after overseeing his Chelsea side beat Barcelona on penalties in the International Champions Cup in Washington DC.
