Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard has declared that his side can use the positives from tonight's performance against Bayern Munich as a platform for future success.
The Blues led Bayern in the UEFA Super Cup with just seconds to spare in extra time, but succumbed to a last-gasp equaliser from Javi Martinez.
Bayern eventually prevailed 5-4 on penalties thanks to Romelu Lukaku's miss from the spot, but Lampard has insisted that his side's spirited display merited victory.
He told ITV Sport: "I think we deserved to win. But they are a great team.
"What can you say [about conceding an equaliser with the last kick]? It's hard out there with 10 men. You're all tired - it's early in the season. They might feel they deserved it by keeping going but when you get that close it's frustrating.
"We've got that spirit in us, which we've never lost. I think we're going to be very strong, very soon."
Blues boss Jose Mourinho was also adamant that the best team lost at full time, declaring that Chelsea can look to the future with confidence on the back of that performance.
