Romelu Lukaku has acknowledged that he was delighted to have produced a match-winning performance for Chelsea against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
Lukaku, who was making his return after recovering from coronavirus, was introduced at half time with the scoreline at 1-1, and the Belgian soon contributed a towering header to put his side in front.
In added-on time, Lukaku ran from the halfway line, shrugging away the attention of two defenders, before winning a penalty which was converted by Jorginho.
The 28-year-old had not scored in the Premier League since September 11, netting against the same opponents, and the summer arrival has admitted that he was long overdue a display of this level.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Lukaku said: "I needed a performance like this today. It's been difficult getting the end of games. I kept working hard. I'm happy with my performance and have to push on.
"I try to be less static and on the move all the time. It was a brilliant cross. My preferred action is running into space, using my speed and my power.
"We are the hunters now. The last results were not the best and now we have to chase. We have to treat every game like a final. Today we won and now we have to push on."
Lukaku has now scored six goals from his 11 starts and six substitute appearances in all competitions this season. body check tags ::
