Swansea City boss Garry Monk optimistic ahead of Chelsea opener

Garry Monk expects a tricky opening-day trip to champions Chelsea but says that his Swansea City side will give a good account of themselves.

Garry Monk has said that his Swansea City team will give a good account of themselves in their Premier League curtain-raiser at Chelsea next weekend.

The Swans kick off their 2015-16 season in unenviable fashion as Monk's side travel to Stamford Bridge hoping to upset the champions on Saturday evening.

Speaking to City's official website, the 36-year-old admits that his troops are underdogs, but is optimistic that a "good performance" can stifle the hosts.

"We look strong as a squad. We've got options as well, which is great. Touch wood, everyone's come through today so we have a fully fit squad going into that weekend.

"We're under no illusions: it's probably the hardest task to start the season that any of the teams in the league could have, going to the home of the champions.

"But it's one that we're going to look forward to, we're going to train well this week and focus and hopefully go up there and put on a good performance."

Monk earned the plaudits as Swansea came eighth last term - their highest ever top-flight finish.
