Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho defends the decision to allow Thibaut Courtois to play on against Arsenal after appearing to suffer concussion.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has defended the decision to allow Thibaut Courtois to play on after appearing to suffer concussion in Sunday's match against Arsenal.

The Belgian goalkeeper stayed on the pitch for almost 14 minutes after seemingly being knocked out when his head collided with Alexis Sanchez's thigh during the first half of the Blues' 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, before being replaced by Petr Cech.

However, Mourinho has said that he played no part in the decision to keep Courtois on, with Chelsea's medical director Dr Paco Biosca allowing the stopper to continue after initial talks.

"On the bench I don't communicate with the doctors," Mourinho told ESPN. "I just get decisions. Can he stay? Yes. He has to leave? OK.

"There's no time to discuss, no medical qualities to discuss. They said yes at first, then after that no. I was just worried for the kid.

"We have Dr Biosca, the head of the medical department, and he has his people. I just want them to give me a decision."

Courtois will reportedly be unavailable for Belgium's Euro 2016 qualifiers against Andorra and Bosnia-Herzegovina during the international break.
