Jose Mourinho suggests that he is disappointed in the media's coverage of Diego Costa and admits that he has only broken his 10-day silence because he is required to.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he is unhappy with the media coverage of Diego Costa's ban.

The Spain international was issued with a three-match ban last week after the Football Association found him guilty of violent conduct.

The 26-year-old appeared to stamp on the ankle of Liverpool's Emre Can during Chelsea's League Cup semi-final win at Stamford Bridge last week.

Since then, Mourinho has refused to speak to the media, and was asked why he boycotted the press for 10 days during this afternoon's press conference.

"Because if you want, you can make a silence very noisy - depends what you want to do," Mourinho told reporters. "You could make noise with my silence, because you know the reason for my silence. It depends on you. If I was a journalist I could make from silence, lots of words."

When asked if his silence was down to Costa's ban, the Portuguese coach replied: "Not just [the ban]. I don't reflect. Maybe I'm punished to reflect. Maybe [the football's authorities] can read my reflection and that I don't want."

Mourinho, who was fined £25,000 for claiming that there is a "campaign" against Chelsea, simply said "yes" when asked if he was only attending today's press conference because he had to.
