Chelsea's Mauricio Pochettino plays down significance of Premier League away record

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that he is 'not bothered' about his ongoing poor away record in the Premier League.

Pochettino is the latest incumbent in the Chelsea hotseat tasked with trying to rejuvenate a club that has fallen away from English football's elite since the start of last season.

Owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital gave the green light to a major shake-up of players during the summer transfer window, with Pochettino being provided with a new-look and younger squad.

Despite the pre-season optimism, Chelsea have collected just four points from as many matches ahead of Sunday's fixture away at Bournemouth.

As it stands, the West Londoners have featured in just one top-flight away fixture, a 3-1 defeat being posted at West Ham United on the second weekend of the campaign.

While that particular result represented Chelsea's first defeat of the campaign, it also extended an unwanted record held by Pochettino, who has failed to win any of his last 13 away fixtures in the Premier League.

A total of 10 losses have been posted during that period, which stretches all the way back to February 2019 when he was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.

When quizzed on the matter at a press conference on Friday, Pochettino gave the question little time, insisting that any results from his time at Spurs are irrelevant.

The Argentine told reporters: "Why? Four of five years ago, the circumstances were different. But why you say it is a must-win? Every game is a must-win.

"If you do not win in football, there are problems. Why would it concern me? All my life, as a player, a coach for 14 years, you think I would be here if it worried me today or tomorrow? Absolutely, I am not worried."

Earlier in the media briefing, Pochettino said that he felt that Chelsea had deserved to win each of their opening four Premier League games, despite only managing to prevail in the clash with Luton Town.

Furthermore, he added that he had 'no doubt' that Chelsea would participate in Europe during 2024-25, regardless of their indifferent start.

Chelsea currently sit in 12th position in the Premier League standings, three points adrift of seventh-placed Crystal Palace who provisionally hold the final continental spot depending on who wins the EFL Cup and FA Cup. body check tags ::
