Luiz Felipe Scolari defends his record as Chelsea manager, claiming that he was not given enough time to make his mark in England.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has defended his record as Chelsea manager.

The 64-year-old, who is now in his second spell as Brazil coach, will return to Stamford Bridge tomorrow night when his side face Russia in an international friendly.

Chelsea were fourth in the Premier League table and still in both the FA Cup and Champions League when Scolari was sacked in February 2009, following a seven-month stint in the hot seat.

Scolari insists that he was not given enough time to make his mark in England.

"I believe my time at Chelsea was not as bad as people have been talking about," he said. "The numbers show that, with the games we won. I don't think it was that bad.

"I don't think [I was given enough time], but it was a decision from the management. Everywhere I work I am just a member of staff and if somebody thinks I am not doing a good job, they can sack me.

"That happens everywhere. I accept that. I did enjoy my time here at Chelsea and I was happy while I was here. It was one of the great experiences I have had in my life."

Scolari won 20, drew 11 and lost five of his 36 games in charge of the Blues.
